Boulouki at the Bridge

12-day workshop in stone masonry

"Boulouki at the Bridge" was a 12day stone masonry workshop which took place in Plaka, Tzoumerka (Epirus, Greece) during 20-31 August 2018 and focused on three building techniques fundamental to pre-industrial bridge-building; namely a) the arch, b) the wall and c)the cobblestone. Selected among more than 90 applications from Greece and abroad, the eighteen participants were introduced to these building techniques while repairing parts of the old cobbled pathway that leads to the historical Bridge of Plaka, under the guidance of experienced masons-tutors. Also, it is worth noting that the first four days of the workshop were open to the "runners-up", so more than thirty people participated in the various activities of these introductory days. Moreover, distinguished academics and professionals in the fields of conservation, mountain development and cultural management gave several lectures during the 12-day workshop.
